OF ST. LOUIS
Land Title Insurance Company of St. Louis is the oldest title insurance company in Missouri and one of the oldest west of the Mississippi. It was founded in 1880 by August Choteau and Emil Dosenbach, two St. Louis business leaders who were responsible for the original surveying of St. Louis County.
The company has been in continuous operation since its inception and was purchased in 1980 by the First American Financial Corporation; the nation’s leading provider of real estate related information products and services. Still an independent underwriter, Land Title Insurance Company of St. Louis also owns a subsidiary, The Trust Company of St. Louis County, which was founded in 1902. Land Title maintains its own title plant, the oldest title facility in Missouri, containing documents dating back to the 1840’s.
